Baseball Programs

We offer many levels of play for all ages. Players of any age and ability level should be able to find a level that is appropriate for them. Fairfax Little League goes to great lengths to assure each child is placed on a team with his/her peers. The chart below summarizes the various levels that are offered; click on the links to get more information about the level of play, schedules, time commitments, etc.

For baseball, all League Age 9 year olds sign up for a kid pitch level and attend evaluations. At the request of a child's parent or at the determination of the league, League Age 9 year olds may be moved to Single A.

Frequently Asked Questions:

When are games usually played? All teams should have at least one game on Saturday. If multiple games are listed, the second game is almost always played on a weeknight.

What is "League Age"? A child’s League Age determines the level(s) that the player is eligible for. For Baseball, Little League defines League Age as the actual age of a child on August 31 of the current year. For Softball, a child’s League Age is the actual age of the child on December 31 of the current year. The League Age determines the level(s) that the player is eligible for. League Age can be found using the Little League Calculator.

What is the difference between the typical age range and the allowable age range? While the registration system will allow anyone to register if they fall within the "allowable" age ranges, most players at the listed level fall within the "typical" range. Depending on the player's ability level and experience, they may play above or below the typical age range listed. Players with little to no experience may start at a level below what is typical, and those with significant experience and/or ability may play at a level beyond what is typical for their age group.

What if we feel our child should be able to play at a level outside of what is listed? As with almost any rule, exceptions can be made. We recognize there are certain instances where it may be appropriate for a player to play above or below the listed age ranges. For example, it may be appropriate for a 12-year old who has played little to no baseball to play AAA instead of Majors. If you think it may be warranted, please contract one of the Player Agents listed on our Board of Directors page.

Tee Ball

Tee Ball is primarily for pre-school players (league age 4 and older) to participate in an instructional environment where the priority is on teaching the basics of hitting, running, catching and throwing a baseball. Players in Tee Ball games hit off a batting tee. All players bat once every inning and an emphasis is placed on playing multiple positions in the field during the game.

If you registered before the waitlist is activated, you should expect to be contacted by your Manager/Coach in mid-March in the Spring and late August in the Fall.

What do I need to know about Tee Ball?

Schedule -- The Spring regular season starts in late March or early April and generally runs through the first or second week in June. The Fall regular season starts in late August or early September and generally runs through the end of October. Weather permitting, practices start a couple of weeks prior to the regular season. There will typically be more than one practice per week prior to games starting.  Tee ball teams usually have two events per week, with one game per week on Saturdays and one practice (usually on the same weeknight) each week. No games are scheduled on the weekends associated with Fairfax County's Spring Break, Memorial Day, Labor Day or Columbus Day Weekend.

Games are subject to a time limit - no new inning shall start later than 1 hour and 15 minutes after the scheduled start time and the game terminates after 4 complete innings or completion of the last legally started inning.

Equipment -- At a minimum, your child will need a baseball glove, a bat, and a helmet. If your player does not have their own bat and helmet and you are unable to obtain one, please contact the league equipment manager, [email protected]. The League will provide a uniform shirt and hat. He or she will also need baseball pants and socks, but you should hold off purchasing these because the coach may want to coordinate with the color of the shirt. Boys will also need to wear a protective cup while playing (even Tee Ball). Baseball cleats become routine at the AA level and above - only rubber cleats are permitted.

Coach Toss

Coach Toss is primarily for players in Kindergarten to participate in an instructional environment where the priority is on teaching the basics of hitting, running, catching and throwing a baseball. Players in Coach Toss games hit off a batting tee and transition to Coach Toss as individual players become ready to hit coach tossed balls.  All players bat once every inning and an emphasis is placed on playing multiple positions in the field during the game.

If you registered before the waitlist is activated, you should expect to be contacted by your Manager/Coach in mid-March in the Spring and late August in the Fall.

What do I need to know about Coach Toss?

Schedule -- The Spring regular season starts in late March or early April and generally runs through the first or second week in June. Rookie

Rookie consists primarily of 1st graders (League Age 6 & 7), with a limited number of experienced League Age 5 players. Inexperienced League Age 8 players may also play Rookie, upon a determination of the league. Players in games hit a ball pitched from a machine. This level introduces the concept of 3 outs per inning. Minimum play requirements are prescribed so players gain experience at multiple field positions.

If you registered before the waitlist is activated, you should expect to be contacted by your Manager/Coach in mid-March in the Spring and late August in the Fall.

Schedule -- The Spring regular season starts in late March or early April and generally runs through the first or second week in June. The Fall regular season starts in late August or early September and generally runs through the end of October. Single A

Single A consists primarily of players that are in 2nd grade (League Age 7 & 8), with a limited number of experienced League Age 6 players. Inexperienced League Age 9 players may also play Single A, upon a determination of the league. Players in games hit a ball pitched from a machine. Players in games hit a ball pitched from a machine. Minimum play requirements are prescribed so players gain experience at multiple field positions. Players in Single A will play with more liberal rules on running extra bases than in Rookie.

If you registered before the waitlist is activated, you should expect to be contacted by your Manager/Coach in mid-March in the Spring and late August in the Fall.

Schedule -- The Spring regular season starts in late March or early April and generally runs through the first or second week in June. The Fall regular season starts in late August or early September and generally runs through the end of October. Weather permitting, practices start a couple of weeks prior to the regular season games beginning. Rookie teams typically play one game per week on Saturday and have two practices each week. No games are scheduled on the weekends associated with Fairfax County's Spring Break, Memorial Day, Labor Day or Columbus Day Weekend.

AA

AA consists primarily of players that are in 3rd or 4th grade (up to “league age” 10) with a few experienced 2nd graders and newer 5th graders. Players in games hit a ball pitched by another player and can start stealing bases at this age.

Players are selected to teams based on a draft. Players who must play at the AA level or above based on age are guaranteed to be selected to a team. Players who are still eligible to play in the Single A division and are not drafted to a AA team will be placed onto a Single A team instead and will receive a refund for any difference in registration fees.

If you registered before the waitlist is activated, you should expect to be contacted by your Manager/Coach in mid-March in the Spring and late August in the Fall.

Schedule -- The Spring regular season starts in late March or early April and generally runs through the first or second week in June. The Fall regular season starts in late August or early September and generally runs through the end of October. Weather permitting, practices start a couple of weeks prior to the regular season. AAA

Majors

Majors consists primarily of players that are in 5th or 6th grade (up to “league age” 12) with a few experienced 4th graders. Players in games hit a ball pitched by another player.

Players are selected to teams based on a draft. Players who must play at the Majors level or above based on age are guaranteed to be selected to a team. Players who are still eligible to play in the AAA division and are not drafted to a Majors team will be entered into the pool of players available for the AAA draft and will receive a refund for any difference in registration fees. Note, Majors is considered the most competitive division, and as such has different minimum Player Participation requirements than other divisions. All teams still bat a continuous batting order (with all players reporting for a game batting sequentially before the order returns to the top of the lineup), but players are only guaranteed to play 3 of every 6 innings defensively, and there is no requirement that players play an infield position on defense or that bench innings be evenly distributed among players. Please consider these factors when selecting the most appropriate division for your player.

Juniors
Juniors is for league age 13 and 14 year old players. Juniors is played on a 90 foot field, the same as high school, college, and professional baseball.

Selection on a Juniors team is made through the draft system.

Seniors

Seniors is for league age 15 and 16 year old players. Seniors is played on a 90 foot field, the same as high school, college, and professional baseball. It is highly recommended that only players league age 14 who are also in 9th grade or higher play Seniors to be with their classmates. All other league age 14 players should play Juniors.

Selection on a Seniors team is made through the draft system.

Players league age 14 and younger not drafted to a Seniors team will enter the Juniors draft.

2026 Spring Baseball Teenage

Welcome to Spring 2026 Fairfax Little League Teenage Baseball (Juniors, and Seniors) Registration!

To be eligible to participate in this league, your child must attend school within the league's boundary or a parent/legal guardian must reside within the league's boundary. If a player qualifies by both residency and school attendance, either option may be used.

Anyone league age 7 or below, and their siblings, are eligible to play for Fairfax Little League regardless of their residency or current school. For those league ages 8 and older, a parent/legal guardian must reside within the league's boundary or your child must be enrolled in grades K or above at a school within the league's boundary to be eligible to play. Players of league-age 13 through 16 need only reside within or attend a school within the combined boundary of both leagues. Determining which level to register for:

If you are unsure of your player’s league age, follow this link to determine your players league age. Use this age and consider the last level played and their ability as you read the descriptions of each division to determine which level to register your player for.

Multi-Player Discount

If you are registering more than one child, brothers and/or sisters, in Fairfax Little League, you will receive a discount of $25 for the second child and each subsequent child.

Scholarships

Registration fees can be waived for a player if they meet one of several conditions. Please go to the Scholarship Information page before completing registration to learn more about obtaining a scholarship.

Late Fee (Waitlist):

A $25 late fee will be charged on registrations after the regular registration period ends the Wednesday before evaluations are held in the Spring or a week before the first draft in the Fall. This is typically about the time when the waitlist begins.

Refunds

To request a refund for your player's registration, contact the Fairfax LL registrar ([email protected]).

All refunds are subject to the discretion of the Fairfax LL Board of Directors. Approved refund requests for the Fall season will be processed as follows:

A refund request made before January 15 will be refunded the registration fee minus a $25 processing fee.
A refund request made between January 16-February 15 will be refunded the registration fee minus a $50 processing fee.
A refund request made between February 16-March 1 will be refunded your registration fee minus a $100 processing fee.
There are no refunds after evaluations or March 1, whichever happens first.

Please note: Full refunds will be provided due to injury or an unexpected move. Refunds will NOT be provided because families cannot adjust their schedules to Fairfax LL practice or game times, nor will refunds be provided because the league is unable to accommodate a teammate/carpool or coach request.
